Angry

I bought a Bratz doll. Actually several.

    WHY???

Today I gave my Powerpoint presentation at college today on school uniforms. I used Kit and Samantha to model 2 doll school uniforms I have as part of my presentation. One of the points I made was why public schools are now making kids wear uniforms.

I used the example of a Bratz doll dressed in a very short skirt and top with no straps and bare midriff. I wanted to show what the uniforms were trying to prevent and the kinds of clothes and heavy makeup the Bratz doll was wearing was a good example of that. And I did get it on sale.

I think Bratz are the anti-American Girl. I think the things they wear are not appropriate influences for children young enough to play with dolls. After I bought 2 Bratz dolls for my presentation along with my 2 AGs, I went back to Target and bought 2 more and the 4 Boyz.

    WHY??

I decided the Bratz were going to represent the "enemies" of some sort. Every good character has some kind of enemy. Skeletor. Gargamel. The Wicked Witch. Bullies.

So the 8 bratz-4 girls and 4 guys will be the enemies to my AGs of sort. OK, not really enemies, but the bad influences kids have to deal with in school and in their neighborhoods. We all see the other people wearing the kinds of inappropraite clothes others wear or makeup and decide not to go that route.

So my Bratz dolls will be represent the school bullies, the girls who make fun of others because of how they're dressed, the ones that try to get the good kids to ditch school, or try drinking or pot or smoking, or engage in reckless behavior. Also the populars who seem perfect to the rest.

Now I know there are some people who like the Bratz and say they're not like that. But part of being a doll is being able to make them into whatever characters I want to. So these are the characters I'm making MY Bratz dolls into.

..Ok...but do you realize that the money you spend on these dolls you do not care for could have bought you something AG?

We don't allow the Bratz dolls in our house.

    They sure are popular though

I wanted to add that I am an adult who lives alone, so these dolls aren't around any children.

Maybe I was just a little dillusional because I almost missed my presentation today because someone hit my empty parked car and when the police rang my doorbell I found it on the sidewalk this morning!

I think you made very good use of the dolls-as a warning...Don't let this happen to your child!

My 2 youngest DD's picked out the Bratz Babyz and Babyz Ponyz (or something like that) from the Target toy catalog. First of all I think they are overpriced. Secondly, when I saw the Babyz in person in TRU today, I almost fainted. Even the babyz are dressed skimpy and they have a heavy metal-looking chain around their neck holding their bottle. A woman actually purchased some Bratz item while I was in the section...I wanted to ask her what on earth was she trying to do to her DD. But I'm too polite. All my Bratz/My Scene came from thrift shops for $2 or less so I have no idea what they cost normally but is it that far out of line with Barbie and stuff? Last time I looked at a Barbie even the basic dolls were atleast $10. I also noticed they hold thier value pretty well. Used Bratz sell for atleast $5-6 each, even more for the boys.

I have a pair of My Scene Barbies I named Felicity and Elizabeth. They also have a Bratz horse named Penny. So obviously I don't see the big deal. My 10 year old cousin and step-sister play with them and love them. It's a doll, ANYTHING that gets dolls back into the hands of the Bratz age group (7-12) is a-okay with me. Playing with dolls (even if they look like tramps) is much prefered to the other things 10-12 year olds could be doing, IMO.

I think the Bratz are worse than Barbie- although I did a research paper on Barbie last year and found some interesting stuff that I will not post here. I'm thinking of giving my barbies- most of them b/c there are a few I like, to my little cousins. but I'll do that after I make a music video to the song by Aqua-nothing bad will be in the video, I just want to make one with actual Barbies, but now I'm getting off topic...

having a little girl play with a doll that looks and glamorizes looking, dressing, and acting like a tramp will encourage little girls to do the same. You are or will be what you play with. I speak from experience-I know.
